This is an interesting analysis, and an interesting defense of astrology I hadn’t come across before.
However, it relies upon a fundamental assumption that is, as far as I know, extremely incorrect: that there is an actual correlation between birth month and temperament.
I personally know a couple people who were born in the same country and climate as me, and on the exact same day. However, our temperaments are quite different.
Of course, you could say that the effect of seasonality has less of an impact than genetic or other environmental causes, but if you’re already taking that path then you’re basically admitting that astrology is useless, even as a Darwinian truth or heuristic for predicting temperament.
thanks for reading. there is no assumption, this is steelmanning how the temperamental observations of astrology could actually be observing a valid pattern, with false attribution. there is plenty of very hard science about what hormones and nutrients do to in utero development. and seasonality can substantially impact that.
I doubt this has ever been studied en masse to say there's no date on it isn't saying much. there will always be exceptions to a rule and I'm quite sure there are many people born in february that are very different.
no part of the essay claims astrology itself is true; it says the pattern it observes could be correct, but with false attribution. that would make it a darwinian truth, but a scientific falsehood.
Nice one, the chicks are definitely gonna love this if nothing more 😄
the women are right! sort of! lol
Very good argument. Well stated. I think this is a good way to start the conversation for sure.
I appreciate that. I'd love to see it spark more discussion on it all.
Very interesting!
thank you :)

If this were true, then the astrology should be backwards for people born in the Southern Hemisphere.
A Gemini in the north should be a Sagittarius in the south.
yeah probably. I reference the geographic considerations at the end.
